Marcelo Reis, King Momo of Carioca Carnival in 2005.

King Momo, (Rei Momo in Portuguese or Rey Momo in Spanish) is considered the king of Carnivals in numerous Latin American festivities, mainly in Бразильский карнавал and Colombia. His appearance signifies the beginning of the Carnival festivities. Each carnival has its own King Momo, who is often given the key to the city from the Майор. Traditionally, a tall, fat man is chosen to fulfill the role because the original King Momo was of that physical stature, but today (due to health problems) the important is that King Momno is funny.

Origin

King Momus derives from the Greek god of the momus (μῶμος) .

King Momos of Rio de Janeiro

Probably the most famous of the King Momos are found in Rio de Janeiro where the tradition of a presiding king goes back to 1933. [1]:

Waldemar Esteves da Cunha, King Momo of Santos, with the Queen Mira, in Brazilian Carnival of 1988.

Waldemar Esteves da Cunha (born 1920) was King Momo of Santos from 1950 to 1956 and from 1958 to 1990, and untill today that's aged 92 and pensioned, he is the oldest Momo in whole Brazil.

Приглашаю Вас принять участие в экспериментальном конкурсе «Вики-Толмач 2019». Цель конкурса — сделать содержание сложных для понимания статей научного характера в Википедии более понятным для широкой аудитории. В конкурсе несколько номинаций и большое количество призовых мест.
Первая номинация — доработка до нормального состояния преамбул научных статей. Обращаю внимание, что в этом году «Вики-Толмач» объединил усилия с проектом «Мириада» и дорабатываемые статьи из числа 10 тысяч, обязательных для всех разделов, можно также добавлять в список «Вики-Толмача» (обратите внимание и на этот список коротких статей). Вторая номинация — «Иллюстрации» — тут речь идёт о любых файлах, которые можно загрузить на Викисклад и с их помощью улучшить восприятие статьи (лекции учёных, озвучивание преамбул статусных статей, инфографика и так далее). Третья номинация — «Врезки» — это краткие изложения научных статей, которые нужно высылать организаторам на почту. Затем лучшие врезки можно использовать в других статьях.
